Bill was a member of Altrincham Chess Club for at least 30 years (no-one seems quite sure!) and played regularly for the club in the local leagues.

He was a very dependable team member who was always willing to travel and provide transport to away matches. His peak grade was 141 (under the old grading system). He lived a full life, regularly travelling abroad even into his 80s.
