3Cs – Mayoral Appreciation Award

Updated with some photos

3Cs chess club in Oldham have again been honoured for their organisation and dedication to children, especially in the Oldham area, by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Eddie Moores conferring his personal “Mayoral Appreciation Award” on the club.  This comes after the Mayor and Mayoress also visited one of their weekly club nights earlier this year.

The award is given to either individuals or organisations within the Oldham Metropolitan Borough who the Mayor believes have made a significant difference to the standard of life within the area but have also promoted the town in a very favourable way to a wider audience.

Although 3Cs have gained many honours for its success over the board in its 47 years of existence, to receive such a prestigious honour from the Mayor is especially significant and gratefully welcomed by the club as it shows that the efforts of everyone involved with 3Cs (officials, players, parents, both past and present) have been noted by people outside of the game of chess but who have recognised the many benefits it can provide to youngsters in their formative years, none more so than when club founder Steve Rigby was honoured with the British Empire Medal for services to chess and young people in the 2025 King’s New Year’s Honours List.
